The Friday Night Blog Club – Barcelona
I love Cities, I think they are the heartbeat of a country. A place where if you look properly you will see the best a country has to offer. Not in the form of its ‘must see’ guidebook listed sights, but in the form of its hustle, its bustle, its sounds, its smells and most importantly its people.
I liked Barcelona, because I like all Cities. But I struggled to like Barcelona…
It’s become a bit of a Gaudi Theme Park and I think that the work of one of the most visionary, humorous and game changing architects of the past 150 years deserves better than having miserable looking tourists placed in front of it whilst somebody points an Iphone at them. And quite what Antoni would think about his masterpieces all being exited via a gift shop I shudder to think.
But we persisted and walked a lot, through its crumbling Baceloneta district, the crazy flea market and the far edges of its more residential Gothic Quarter.
